Travelling leaves you speechless. Then turn you into a storyteller. Hope I have been a good one ^.^

USA Trip Day 13 - 16 Sep 2014 - Hollywood Glamour

Whoohoooo it's Hollywood day!

Regardless of how indifferent I had felt about the City of Angels, I was beyond excited to see Hollywood.

I meant we all grew up watching movies and cartoons, listening to music, copying the style of those hottest stars - all products of Hollywood. It was also portrayed as the place, where many made it big and had gone from zero to hero.

Be it unconsciously or consciously, I'm sure we all wish to one day be able to experience such glamorous lifestyle, typically associated with Hollywood! Right?

We left hotel around 10am and took Metro Red Line from Pershing Square Station to Hollywood / Highland Station.

This is the view of Hollywood Hill from Hollywood & Highland Center (a shopping center).  Pretty underwhelming huh? I just wasn't satisfied with the view so I decided to take a closer look at the sign the next day.

Fortunately for us, Starbucks was running a promotional event, where they gave us Starbucks To-Go Cold Tumbler for free and we gotta draw on those cups! Each cup was retailing for like 12 bucks at their stores.

Then they filled our cups with their signature drinks for free. You think we will skip it? Nah huh :D

We got hungry after the cheap thrill of getting freebies so we wandered around the shopping center and stumbled upon Johnny Rockets. I know its just a fast food chain but it sports such a charming retro American diner look.  I opted for a slightly healthier option with chicken salad but my oh my, look at that huge bowl!

After lunch, we strolled along the famed Hollywood Boulevard and took in many famous sights we saw in TV!

El Capitan Theatre
Opened since 1926, this theater now serves as the location for majority of The Walt Disney Studio's film premieres.

Dolby Theatre (formly known as the Kodak Theatre)
While this theatre is most known for hosting the annual Oscars awards, it also hold the honor of holding other events such as American Idol, Emmy Awards, Miss USA peagent and many other concerts. Nonetheless, I expected a bit grander facade for the home of the Oscars :D

The Grauman's Chinese Theater has hosted many movie premieres since its opening in 1927.

It now houses the single largest IMAX auditorium in the world.

I bet many of you are familiar with the celebrity hand printing ceremony held in the theater's forecourt.  While there are hundreds of such concrete blocks and hand and foot prints, there is only limited space available.  So a special committee select the celebrities' concrete blocks based on their contribution to Hollywood.

There are more than 2,500 coral stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard & 3 blocks of Vine Street.

An average of 200 nominations are submitted annually to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame selection committee, who then narrowed down the pool to just 20 new names to be added the following year.

Both of us have been to Madame Tussaud's Museum in Hong Kong (though separately), we wanted to check out their Hollywood Branch.

I will always be a fan of Jen haha :D

You, entertaining guy you.

Been a fan since Titanic days!

He made me watch soccer.

Freeze, you human!

Can I borrow your ride Wolverine?

Hot afternoon sun and our high expectations made our walk quite anti climatic.  Now that I think about it, we were just responsible for our disappointment. Who asked us to expect such magic from just a neighborhood? Honestly.

We then took Red Metro back to Pershing Square and walked over to the Grand Central Market. We passed by Angels Flight, the old funicular railway built since 1901. However, it was closed since 2013, after one car derailed and passengers had to be rescued.

This huge market brings together the numerous cuisines of LA since 1917! It is open from 8am to 10pm daily, so make sure you drop by this place for breakfast, lunch, dinner or really, just any meal in between.

We were pretty exhausted, thanks to the LA Heat Wave. While our hotel was just 15 min walk away from the Market, we chose to take bus back. We grabbed a quick shower and kind Mister stayed back in the hotel to gym and do laundry.

One of my high-school friends picked me up for dinner and we headed for spicy Chinese restaurant. Great evening spent in many laughter with friends (:

Adios!
xoxo
