USA Trip Day 12 - 15 Sep 2014 - LA Downtown & Korea Town

While we checked in soon after midnight, we fell asleep only around 3am as we decided to Febreze the whole bed, pillows and blankets. It was of course expected that we slept in and had a leisurely lunch.

One of the few good things about this hotel was that it was surrounded by food and amenities. There were loads of restaurants nearby including a very homely Mexican diner and a Chinese take away shop round the corner. There was also a CVS pharmacy nearby for all your necessities. Our hotel didn’t provide us with drinking water so we had to get ours from there.

Another reason we set out only around noon was that venturing out into the sunny LA during heat wave felt like an uphill battle.  While our 'boutique hotel' room didn't have air-conditioning, we were still under the shelter. So doing laundry was our excuse for starting our sightseeing so late.

Heat wave + sauna like room + bathroom with bad drainage + noisy and shady neighbourhood all combined made us lose our excitement and curiosity in exploring the City of Angels.

The nearest subway station was like 15 min walk away! In this heat! Grhhhhh

We took subway from  Pershing Square to the Staple Center - home of LA Lakers and LA Clippers.  And one of the hottest venue for many concerts. However, seeing it in reality was quite anti-climatic.  So when we were in New York City, we decided to join the Madison Square Garden tour to fully appreciate the significance of the stadium, in our culture.

We then stopped by at the Grammy Museum for a tour. Open from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm on weekdays and 10am to 6.30pm on weekends, the Grammy Museum tickets go for $12.95 per adult.

Back when Maroon 5 was considered a New Artist!

Regardless of the number of guys she dated and all those hit songs released post-breakup, I still like Taylor Swift a lot.  If you are a rich, pretty, intelligent, talented girl like her, there wouldn't be a shortage of guys asking you out.  Would you say no to a date with all those hotties? I wouldn't! So I don't think we can really blame her and call her names for dating quite a few guys.

The museum showcases exhibits aimed to educate individuals about the history and cultural significance of American music and also to inspire the next generation. Some notable exhibits include the Michael Jackson exhibit, the Grammy Museum archives and The Taylor Swift experience (closed since Oct 2015).

We explored the downtown LA on foot (looking back on it now, its really not advisable).

Such a beautiful, majestic entrance!

City Hall, completed in 1928, has 32 floors and retained the title of the tallest building in LA till 1964. The 27th floor houses an observation deck, open to public for free during office hours. Do you see how there was no traffic on the road? There was some official event going on and the vicinity area was condoned off, so we couldn't visit the observation floor.

We then decided on Koreatown for dinner, taking the Metro Expo Line from Pico Station and then changing at 7th St/Metro Center towards Wilshire/Normadic.

Vintage-looking hotel we spotted along our walk from subway station towards the Koreatown

Korean restaurants always offer you a huge spread of ‘banchan’ or side dishes and this restaurant wasn’t stingy at all! Just look at all the banchan they gave us!

Mister's bibimbap

My japchae
While this is a Korean restaurant, this was still in the USA. Of course the portions were huge, I couldn't finish even half of my noodles! The owner kindly packed my leftover for my supper. I was just glad I didn't waste food :D

With full tummy, we were feeling so lazy and I was dreading our return trip to hotel.  The restaurant was located about 10 min walk away from the subway station. After taking train, we still needed to walk another 15 min to reach our hotel.  Walking those streets in broad daylight was one thing, doing so after dark was another thing.  We tried our luck by checking alternative routes on Google Map. Lo and behold, there was a direct bus that goes to a block away from our hotel!!!

Did I mention our 'boutique hotel' didn't provide water nor hair dryer? So we stopped by CVS to get those and Mister got me a new friend. Can you spot her, poking her cute head out of my bag? ;p

Adios!
xoxo
