USA Trip Day 4 - 7 Sep 2014 - Pier 39

Pier 39 / Fisherman's Wharf

Address: Beach Street & The Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA 94133

Opened since 1978, Pier 39 is one of the most famous tourist attractions in San Francisco. The presence of restaurants, souvenir shops, street performances, cruises, sea lions as well as an aquarium makes this place an ideal hangout place for any visitor - be it families or couples or a group of friends.

My friends picked me up around 2pm and we immediately headed to Pier 39 for lunch. However, we were further impeded by the lack of parking, or rather reasonably priced parking lot, near pier 39.  That was the downside of visiting a popular tourist attraction on a weekend.  We ended up paying 15 USD for a parking lot and it wasn't even near where we wanted to go! The nearest lot was at pier 15 :(

My friends recommended Fog Harbor, a family-owned restaurant with spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Refreshing thirst-quencher

Such a huge plate of appetizer!

As usual, I couldn't finish the huge American serving and felt so bad to waste food :( However, I made sure to finish all the seafood with the help of my two friends though :D

This restaurant serves 100% sustainable seafood and their service was superb with friendly wait staff. The view from restaurant was breathtaking and we did enjoyed a relaxing , casual atmosphere. While the food did not taste that fantastic,it was definitely above average however.

Alcatraz Island

Sea lions started hauling out on docks of Pier 39 marina in 1989 and their numbers had been increasing ever since. At one point in 2009, there were as many as 1700 sea lions, sunbathing at Pier 39!

With my beautiful friend

San Francisco Bay Bridge
It particularly looks stunning at night with sparking lights across the waterway!

Thank you for driving all the way from Fremont to spend an afternoon with me guys! love you!

Oh on a side note, if you are a fan of clam chowder, this is where you should enjoy it with a freshly-baked sourdough bread bowl! I was just so full to try the famed chowder. Even around 8pm at a family dinner, I was still not hungry enough to eat as much as the amount deemed reasonable by the relatives :D

Adios!
xoxo
