USA Trip Day 2 - 5 Sep 2014 - Stanford Shopping Center & Stanford University

I so loved waking up to the gentle greetings of light rays that sneaked through the window, while I was still wrapped snugly in my comfortable cocoon of blanket and mattress. In Singapore and Myanmar, I was so used to avoiding sunlight like a plague due to the tropical weather. So it was definitely a nice change to be able to appreciate sun light in the cooling weather of the bay area.

Our first stop of the day was the Palo Alto medical center for Mister to undergo his annual full-body check-up.  Afterwards, we left around 1030am to explore Palo Alto area - the birthplace of tech culture. Homes of various tech entrepreneurs including Steve Jobs' were located here.

Stanford Shopping Center

Opening Hours: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm (closes early on Saturdays and Sundays)

Oh my, Stanford Shopping Center was pretty for a shopping center. When we were just accustomed to multi-storied glitzy shopping malls, a visit to shop-houses spread out all over the beautifully and intricately landscaped compound was a breath of fresh air.  A collection of upscale boutiques, massive department stores and cozy cafes creates such a pleasant place to shop or window browse.  We stayed only for about an hour since I hadn't got that insurmountable urge to shop so we just browsed :D

Stanford University

Address: 450 Serra Mall, Stanford, CA 94305, United States

Founded on: 11 November, 1885

Notable Alumni: Tiger Woods, Larry Page, Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Clinton and many more

I'm sure many of us knew Stanford as a prominent Ivy League academic institution - a place where many students aspire to attend and many parents dream of sending their children. But do you know it is also a stunning campus with sprawling lawns, beautiful courtyards and intricate architecture?

The main Quad, the Memorial Church, the Hoover Tower as well as the Palm Drive are just a few of the remarkable places to visit.  Sadly for us, we couldn't find an available parking lot for visitors since it was a school day.  So we quickly walked around for a few minutes while Uncle waited in the car for us.  How I wish we could have spent 1-2 hours to explore this fascinating campus!

On our way to lunch, we drove along the University Avenue, lined with several high-end shops and restaurants. I even spotted a Burmese cuisine restaurant there!  This busy street also used to house offices of well-known Silicon Valley companies such as Google, PayPal & Facebook during their infancy stages.

That's it for now ^-^

Adios!
xoxo
