Mr & Missy in Thailand Day 4

I wanted to shop at Pratunam market which only opens in the morning till 10-11 am so I pitifully requested Mister to wake up early to embark on our (read as "my") shopping excursion at 730am.  By 10, we had made our round and were enjoying early lunch. AND dessert of Magnum ice-cream.  Can you believe that it was just half price in Bangkok compared to Singapore?!! Along our walk back to the Metz hotel, I saw this set of handbag and cabin luggage that is too cute not to buy! There went my 850 Bahts, on the impulse buy.  My justification was I would need an extra bag anyway with the shopping we did at Terminal 21, Pratunam Market & the future purchases from Chatuchak market ;p

We reached back to our room slightly before 11am.  After taking about 30 min to freshen up, we headed to the weekend market by a cab (100 Bahts I think). It only took us about 15 min and we were lucky so far to have avoided Bangkok's traffic jam.

We had tonnes of fun eating (coconut ice-cream, BBQ meat, grilled squid, tempura, fresh fruits and refreshing orange juice) and shopping (in my case anyway).

It was getting really hot so we left the market around 3pm and headed back to hotel to grab a shower and take a short rest. Although we had to keep going back to hotel, it was a great idea as we didn't have to carry our purchases. It also allowed us to enjoy air-con, take a shower & give our tired feet a rest. So 100 Bahts for a cab was definitely well-spent.

After about an hour rest, we left our hotel again to get a foot massage at Chang and to grab dinner.  Since it was close to evening peak period, we avoided the air-conditioned comfort of a cab in favor of a faster tuk tuk.  The driver was really friendly at the beginning but as we continued talking, he was trying to bring us to other places which give him commission instead of Chang that we wanted to go to. We were firm though and ended up at Chang (Siam Square Soi 6) to enjoy our Thai food massage. Note that you will have to pay zone fees to enter Siam Square on a cab or a tuk tuk.

Happy me after foot massage

It was only 6pm and with the huge amount of street food we had at JJ market, we weren't really hungry yet. So we walked around Siam Square area for about an hour before going over to Som Tam Na at Siam Square Soi 5.  There were so many cute boutique shops in Siam Square area and it was definitely a feast for my shopaholic eyes :D

There was already a line outside at 7pm. If you go any later than that, be prepared to see a longer queue.

We enjoyed our dinner of beef salad & grilled fish.  The only down side was sticky rice.  We were supposed to eat it while its still warm but we were taking our time to savor dinner and it got much harder. So maybe jasmine rice could have been a better choice.

After dinner, it was only 8pm or so and we were quite at a loss as to where to go.  We were not dressed to go clubbing or drinking at a bar.  We both thought why not try Asiatique? Its the riverfront market / night bazaar / shopping mall / alfresco dining / entertainment complex combined into one.  We took BTS to Saphan Taksin Station, walked to the end of pier and took a 10-min free shuttle boat ride to Asiatique.

If only the weather was less hot, we could have enjoyed this place more.  It was pretty unique, definitely not something you commonly see in Asia.  Asiatique reminds me abit of Pier 39 in San Francisco. Although restaurants and shops are housed in so-called warehouses, the place was so clean and spacious! So many cute boutiques too. While several items can be found at other places like Pratunam and Chatuchak, there were a lot of funky things unique to this place too. Since its quite photogenic, bring your proper camera along. No matter how good mobile cameras are nowadays, night time shooting is still best done with a proper camera.

Such a cute cafe in VW

We reached back to our hotel at 1030pm and Mister was so amazed that he survived the entire day of shopping with me. Mind you, it was like a 15-hours affair! With a promise from me to set out later the next day, we called it a day.

I was ecstatic with my purchases :D

Adios!
xoxo
