At the Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal
We checked out around 730am but thanks to our Hanok owner who called a cab for us, we didn't waste our time finding a taxi. By 754am, we have already exchanged our tickets to the right place! The sales lady wrote the departure time 830am at the back of the tickets. There is no seat number printed on the ticket so seats are assigned based on a first-come-first-served basis.
Since we still had about half an hour left before the bus departs, we went to Paris Baguette at the bus terminal for breakfast!
Since I have an extremely sweet tooth, I got a waffle for breakkie! haha By the way, the packaging for maple syrup is so interesting, creative and useful!
Right outside Paris Baguette, we spotted these lockers! In that case, we should have just brought our luggage to the bus terminal and kept them in the lockers! When we are back from Gochang, we could just take a cab straight to the car park. Now, we had left our luggage at the hanok so we would have to take a cab to the hanok, retrieved our luggage and walked about 15-20 min to the car park to take the shuttle bus back to Seoul! Sigh...
Anyway, there weren't a lot of people taking bus from Jeonju to Gochang so we managed to get seats! The bus reached Gochang bus terminal around 10am. The journey was about 90min long. Based on the map below, we took about 15 min to walk from 9 to 1 (the Gochang Fortress). However, we remembered to buy bus tickets to go back to Jeonju before we headed to the fortress.

The area around fortress is really pretty!
The famous Korean play-writer's house was located next to the fortress too!
A cozy little home
By 1130am, we were done exploring the area and went to the tourist information center to request for their help to call a cab. Mister wanted to see the dolmen site. During our walk from the bus terminal to the fortress, we saw very very few taxis on the road so we thought it would save us a lot of time and trouble if we call a cab instead of waiting for one on the road. On a cold cold day nonetheless. I was suffering from miscalculation on what to wear! The previous day, I was equipped with stocking and cardigans to survive on a chilly Spring day but it was so hot! So today, I chose to wear shots but it ended up as a super chilly day :(
The taxi ride cost us about 6500 Won and we reached the Dolmen Museum after about a 10min taxi ride. It was around 1145am and we discovered that the train to the dolmen site had left at 1130am! And the next train would leave only 130pm! We still had to catch a 5pm shuttle bus at Jeonju to go back to Seoul. The bus ride from Gochang to Jeonju would take about 90 min and we still had to collect our luggage from the Hanok Inn before going to take the shuttle bus. So we really couldn't wait for the next train at 130pm and just decided to take a 10 min walk instead.
BUT we need to take care of our tummy first! The sad thing was the lack of restaurant or cafe or canteen or eatery at the Dolmen Museum!!! We ended up eating instant noodle at the convenient store. Its like what the characters do in the Korean movies! Haha
This is the cute train which would take you to the dolmen site. Too bad we missed the train and had to walk.
Along the 10min walk from the museum to the dolmen site
There was a mini flower field at the dolmen site!
Dolmen are just graves or grave markers!!! It wasn't anything exciting or super amazing so we felt a bit disappointed. It's not that worth it to spend 3 hours on the road, to and fro from Jeonju.
We headed back to the museum entrance and requested the ticket counter to help us call a cab to go back to the bus terminal. It cost us around 7000 won for the 15min taxi ride. We departed for Jeonju around 2pm and reached the Jeonju bus terminal around 330pm. There were so many taxis waiting outside the terminal and we took one back to the Seonunjae Inn to collect our luggage.
There was a pretty pavilion on a bridge near the Seonunjae Inn.

We decided to stop by at a super cozy and pretty cafe to get a famous summer dessert - Patbingsu.
pretty, isn't it?
a famous summer dessert - Patbingsu
This is the BEST Patbingsu I have ever eaten in my life! It wasn't to sweet but it has enough flavor in it. The sweet chewy nuts also added a extra taste to it.You must simply try it when you are in Jeonju Hanok Village.

Snacks that we got from Jeonju
As we left Jeonju at 5pm, we reached back at Gwanhwamun Station at 8pm. We were so hungry but we still had to go back to Sinchon to put my luggage at the guesthouse first. We finally reached a Bulgogi (BBQ Beef) restaurant in Sinchon around 9pm.
The beef was SOOOO GOOD! I just had to eat it again so I made Mister promise me to eat here again before I leave Korea.
Koreans' way of eating BBQ beef - wrap meat, rice, kimchi and chilli in a lettuce
At the beginning, the owner put a yellow liquid onto the BBQ hotplate. After that liquid was cooked into a semi solid state, we realized that it was egg!! So yummy!
As he was walking me back to my Sinchon guesthouse, we passed by this roadside stall with lots of soft toys! He agreed to break a stack of TEN bricks to win this cutie for me! hehehe It inspired a Korean guy to try breaking the stack of bricks for his girlfriend too!
Adios!
xoxo

Korea Trip Itinerary
Korea Day 1
Korea Day 2
Hello, I'm heading to S.Korea next April. Will be staying at Seonunjae - was it difficult to locate the inn? I'll be taking the bus from Busan to Jeonju. Any pics of the entrance to the hanok village?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Hii
DeleteAre you taking the free shuttle bus from Busan? If that is the case, shuttle bus will stop in the car park at the Hanok Village. There is a tourist information centre in the car park and you can get a detailed map of the Hanok village. There should not be any problem in finding Seonunjae with that map (:
However, if you have to pay for your bus tickets, I think your bus will stop at the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal. Then, you will have to take a cab to the Hanok village. If the taxi driver does not know Seonunjae, just ask them to drive you to the Confucius school inside the Hanok village. Seonunjae is very near the Confucius school.
There are a lot of roads to get inside the hanok village. Do you still need a photo of the official entrance of the village? If you need, please give me your email address and I can send it to you.
My blog about Jeonju is here: http://musingsofmissn.blogspot.sg/2013/07/mr-missy-in-korea-day-3-18-may-2013.html
So excited for your trip and hope you enjoy your holiday! (:
