My Favourite List (Thai Dramas / Lakorns) Part II

So how many dramas from my Part I review have you watched?
Shall we continue? This Part II is dedicated to one of my shipped couple Nadech-Yaya.

As I didn't watch Rising Sun 1 with Mario and Taew, I was a bit confused in the first few episodes. Set in Japan, Nadech's character became the new Souryo of their Onitsuka family clan upon the death of his cousin.  To protect his betrothed Yaya (whom he also loves) during these uncertain times of leadership changes, Nadech distanced himself from Yaya for a few years. But of course, she didn't know the reason for his disappearance and thought he was just toying with her feelings.

Rising Sun 2 starts with Nadech's efforts to get back in Yaya's life. Fret not, this misunderstanding was resolved by episode 6 and we moved on to witness how the once little girl (at least in Nadech's eyes) supported him in the most trying times and even managed to exude charisma during the short time that Yaya had to provide leadership to Onitsuka clan. Being both an intelligent lady and a strong fighter, Yaya rose to the occasion gracefully.  As Onitsuka clan faced adversaries who are hell-bent on destroying the clan and their protection over their town, Samurai honour as well as heartwarming love and trust between each member of the clan provided a ray of hope to tide us over. Towards the end, Nadech has learnt to lean on his lady and lead Onitsuka clan as a team instead of sheltering her from negativities.

Yaya's character is the famous Thai actress who is adored by her fans all over Asia. Nadech portrays a special force police officer who is extremely capable in capturing criminals as well as ladies' hearts, despite already having a fiancé. Their perfect images are just how they want others to perceive them instead of their true self.  Sinking into a state of permanent arrogance, we can't seem to fathom their redemption. Although they excel in their respective jobs, they show no respect for others. Their punishment comes in the form of a freak accident which switches their souls into each others' bodies.

When the temporary arrangement began to feel like something permanent, they have learned to accept not only their fate but each other's strengths and weaknesses.  Doomed to a life of the opposite gender, they have learnt to appreciate each other.  Despite not having as many romantic scenes as we would like, the show made up for it in spades by incorporating several comedic moments, through Nedech's feminine acting and Yaya's manly postures. We witness our lead couple mature through this challenging experience and atone for their past mistakes.  Not only was the show wickedly funny,  there was no possessive, crazy second lead to distract us.

Crown Princess

After being named as the heir to the crown of a small European kingdom, Yaya (the newly coronated Crown Princess) faced multiple attempts on her life.  To protect his heir from future attacks, Yaya's grandfather the King sent her to Thailand, whose military general is the King's good friend.  As the elite SWAT team, Nadech and his gang of soldiers are assigned to be her bodyguard and to figure out the perpetrators behind those attacks.

I have to say, the scenery was truly spectacular and postcard worthy.  Yaya's wardrobe was sensational. From tender looks between them to romantic scenes, Nadech and Yaya's chemistry was undeniable. Thank you for not making the princess a damsel in distress, but rather a warrior leader who is courageous and responsible. Another plus point: there was no insufferable love triangle which can make you pull your hair out. Instead, it was their sense of duty and righteous attitude which stood in the way of their love. Some would say action sequences were unbelievable: how can they escape gun-wielding professional assassins not once, not twice but all the times? Well, this drama has its shortcomings but it made up for it other aspects - acting, character development as well as cinematography.

Enjoy these 3 lakorns before we gear up for Part III.

Adios!
xoxo
