NUS Gang in Korea Day 6 (2 April 2015)

Day 6 was definitely the highlight of our entire Korea trip. Jinhae Cherry Festival (Jinhae Gunhangje Festival) was the sole reason why we timed our visit to coincide with cherry blossom season. In order to avoid the crowd, we chose to visit Jinhae on a weekday.

To get to Jinhae from Busan, take the subway to Sasang Station, walk towards Exit 5 and you will see Seobu Intercity Bus Terminal as soon as you get out.  Well, McDonald's was the huge clue for bus terminal since the terminal sign was in Korean.

Buses depart to Jinhae from Busan every 15-20 minutes and run from 6am to 9pm daily. If you don't speak Korean, no worries as some staff speak basic English. Although buses depart at scheduled times normally, today they departed as soon as there were enough people due to the high demand for bus tickets to Jinhae.

Tickets for this one-hour journey cost 5,100 Won per pax. Upon our arrival around 10am, we were greeted with breathtaking sight full of cherry blossoms.

Right outside the bus terminal! Welcome to Jinhae!

Of course, the boys just had to stop to pick up some classic American Corn Dogs.
2 Happy Boys

We walked further down to the heart of the Cherry Blossom Festival at Yeojwacheon Stream to see what all the hype was about.

Korea is always known for being a place for couples, and this Cherry Blossom festival was no exception!

The Yeojwacheon Stream is one of the main attractions of the Festival. Spanning over 1.5km in length, it flows from downtown Jinhae to the Jinhae Girls' High School. The steam is lined with a beautiful row of cherry trees and creates a fascinating canopy effect over the stream.

After enjoying the blossoms for a while, it was time to soothe our hungry tummies which had been protesting for a while. Initially, we were looking for Korean Galbi-tang (Beef short ribs soup) but we stumbled upon this awesome barbecue place instead. No regrets! They even gave seasoned crab as one of the complimentary side dishes. *swoon*

One attraction you absolutely have to visit in Jinhae during the Cherry Blossom Festival is Gyeonghwa Station. A small railway station that ceased operations in and out of Gyeonghwa since February 2015, it currently is open to tourists as a photogenic attraction, especially with cherry petals falling down gently like snow when the train passes by. It is also known as the Cherry Blossom Road.

Selfie time!

After a long day of walking, taking pictures and enjoying nature at its best, we had to head back to Seoul. We took the same intercity bus back to Busan, which departed around 3:30pm. After collecting our bags from Toyoko Inn slightly after 5pm, we stopped by our favorite Jajangmyeon place again. This time, we got a take-out order to enjoy on our KTX ride back to Seoul, that departed at 6pm promptly.

A bowl of awesomeness

It was such a relief that cherry trees blossomed as predicted, not earlier or later.  We all left Busan and Jinhae with terrific memories and content feelings. Thank you Beautiful Mother Nature!

Adios!
